The Balsammand Lake is 5 Km from Jodhpur, was built by Balak Rao Parihar in 1159 A.D.

It is a man made reservoir that was dug in the 12th century and served as an important source of water to the Jodhpur city for a long time. One gets a royal feeling while picnicing near the Balsamand Lake cosseted by mango trees, guava and papaya groves on all sides with scenic vistas of the red sandstone Balsamand Lake Palace and the dust-brown hills beyond. Many animals and birds are also seen around the lake.
