Learn about the traditional art of Bagru block printing, a form of hand block printing that originated in the Bagru region of Rajasthan, India. Discover the process of carving wooden blocks and applying dye to fabric. Meet your guide at the Bagru block printing workshop and learn about the process of carving the wooden blocks. Watch as skilled artisans carve intricate patterns on wooden blocks, typically using symbols, motifs, or geometric designs. Discover the process of dyeing the fabric. Bagru printing involves natural dyes, such as indigo, madder, and pomegranate, giving the fabric rich, earthy colors. These dyes are applied with the wooden blocks, and the fabric is pressed against the block to transfer the design. In many cases, the fabrics are dyed using traditional methods, such as resist dyeing, where parts of the fabric are treated with mud or other substances to resist dye, creating patterns.
