Description

Begin your day with a local breakfast at The Traveler’s Cup Coffee Shop or Kuku Coffee Shop inside the fort. Then, head to Jaisalmer Fort (Sonar Quila), a UNESCO World Heritage Site made of golden sandstone. Explore the Raj Mahal (Royal Palace), Jain Temples with beautiful marble carvings, and the Fort Museum. Walk through narrow lanes, souvenir shops, and rooftop cafés. Next, visit Patwon ki Haveli, a cluster of five mansions built by a wealthy merchant family. Admire intricate jharokhas, murals, and mirror work. Continue to Nathmal ki Haveli and Salim Singh ki Haveli, both close to the fort area. Nathmal ki Haveli features beautiful carvings and frescoes, while Salim Singh ki Haveli has a unique peacock-shaped roof and narrow entrance. For lunch, head to a restaurant near Gadisar Lake, such as Desert Boy’s Dhani or Jaisal Italy, which offers a rooftop lake view and fusion food. After lunch, visit Gadisar Lake, a peaceful man-made reservoir built in the 14th century. Enjoy boating or simply relax by the ghats. This is an excellent spot for photos with the yellow-stone architecture reflecting in the water. In the afternoon, depart for Sam Sand Dunes, located about 40–45 km (about 1 hour drive) from Jaisalmer city. Enjoy the changing desert landscapes along the way. Once there, choose between a camel safari or jeep safari into the Thar Desert. Watch the sunset over the dunes. Optionally, stay for a cultural folk dance and Rajasthani dinner. If you prefer to return to Jaisalmer by nightfall, skip the dinner show and leave after sunset.
